Revelstoke Museum & Archives
presents the opening of
"Overwhelmed" on Saturday August
14, 4:30 p.m. This exhibit will
feature the personal stories of
the victims of the 1910 Rogers
Pass Avalanche.
Revelstoke Railway Museum will
be opening an exhibit on the
snow removal techniques used by
the railway at the time of the
1910 avalanche and what the
workers faced in keeping the
track clear.
Parks Canada, at Rogers Pass
National Historic Site, in
Glacier National Park will be
unveiling a commemorative
monument to recognize the 1910
avalanche tragedy as well as
what has been learned since to
prevent a similar disaster.
CP
will present its Museum Car
pulled by the Empress 2861 steam
engine. Arriving on Friday
evening with viewing on
Saturday, the restored baggage
car will hold a treasure of CP
history featuring the Last Spike
itself on loan from the Canadian
Museum of Science and
Technology.
The Portrait Gallery of Canada,
a program of Library and
Archives Canada, presents
"Driving the Nation: The Last
Spike and Faces of the CPR".
This short video presents a
selection of portraits and
historical documents which
illustrate the stories and
experiences behind the driving
of the last spike, an event
which is still referred to as
this country’s most important
nation-building project.
