Revelstoke began in the 1880s as a transportation and supply center for the mining industry. This was soon bolstered by the construction of the trans-continental railway and the subsequent decision of the Canadian Pacific railway to establish its main operations offices and maintenance facilities for the Shuswap and Mountain Subdivisions in Revelstoke.

Today, Revelstoke has a reputation for community living in a spectacular and historic mountain setting. The community is rich in natural environmental beauty, and history, offering a unique blend of cultural events and out doors activities.

The theme for Railway Days this year is Chinese Legacies, with a new exhibition interpreting the significance of Chinese labour in building the trans-continental railway opening at the Revelstoke Railway Museum, and another new exhibition, interpreting Revelstoke’s Chinese community, opening at the Revelstoke Museum & Archives. Revelstoke’s other museums, the BC Interior Forestry Museum, and the Nickelodeon Museum, along with the Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre, have special programmes and events planned for Railway Days as well.

Railway Days is an official BC150 Years Community Event.
